From bronze to silver: Hoffmann SE moves up the EcoVadis sustainability ranking

21 Mar 2024

Hoffmann SE renewed its EcoVadis sustainability rating at the end of 2023 and has now been awarded a silver medal, improving on the previous year’s bronze award. With a score of 63 points out of 100, the company (including all its subsidiaries) now ranks amongst the top 25 percent of all companies assessed by EcoVadis.

“We’re delighted to have improved our rating from bronze to silver in the space of just one year,” comments Holger Quade, Senior Director Compliance, Risk & Sustainability at Hoffmann SE. “Our global efforts to achieve even greater sustainability at Hoffmann have paid off as we’ve increased our score from 55 points last year to 63 points. This great result is an incentive for us to make further improvements and become an even more sustainable company in the future. To this end, we’re further developing our sustainability strategy and setting out specific goals, key figures and measures for our strategic action areas.”

In 2022, Hoffmann SE developed a Group-wide sustainability strategy in order to link ESG (environmental, social, governance) considerations more closely with the corporate strategy and to take a holistic view of the Group’s financial, ecological and social performance. The aim for 2023 was then to incorporate the sustainability strategy in the company’s business activities. To do this, Hoffmann focused on a number of tasks, including developing a climate strategy and defining measures to decarbonise the company, electrifying the fleet, and expanding the sustainable GreenPlus product range under the GARANT brand.

In addition, numerous initiatives were launched or expanded in 2023. These included devising a packaging concept based on recyclable filling and shipping materials, ensuring that all German sites purchased green electricity, and launching various GreenPlus products – including protective gloves with a recycled material content of 78 per cent. To complement these measures, the company also organised sustainability days and was certified in accordance with international standards in areas such as occupational safety and energy management.

Hoffmann SE has also been a signatory to the United Nations (UN) Global Compact since the end of 2021. In this way, the company is demonstrating that it wants to progressively intensify its commitment to sustainability, alongside 13,000 other organisations from civil society, politics and science in more than 160 countries. The EcoVadis rating
The EcoVadis rating is one of the most prestigious international sustainability ratings. A scorecard is used to measure different indicators such as sustainable target-setting, activities implemented, certifications and controlling measures. Sustainability criteria are assessed along the entire value creation chain by industry, company size and geographical location. The rating is based on an overall score as well as four individual scores in the categories of environment, ethics, people and employment rights, plus sustainable procurement practices, thus facilitating comparison with other companies.
